Son of Giuseppe Menardi [1863-1935] and Emilia Volkan [1869-1943].
Father of Dino Menardi.
Leo Menardi had two older siblings, Margherita (b.1902) and Rinaldo (b.1903).
One of the pioneers of ice hockey in Cortina. He captained the local team for many years in the 1920s and 30s.
Natural born leader who helped Cortina win an Italian ice hockey championship in 1932.
His family owned the five star Cristallo hotel in Cortina where many celebrities and Royalties have stayed over the years, like King of Egypt, King of Serbia, King Albert of Belgium, Leo Tolstoy, Klaus Kinski, Brigitte Bardot, Shirley Bassey, Frank Sinatra, David Niven, Claudia Cardinale and Peter Sellers to name a few.
Also, several movies were shot there, The Pink Panther, Von Ryan’s Express and James Bond.
Described as a very wise and organized person, "a gran viveur".
Aside from ice hockey he also brought curling to Italy and Cortina.
At the 1956 Winter Olympic games he was part of the organizing hockey committee.

Meneur naturel qui a conduit le club au titre de champion d'Italie en 1932.
Sa famille tenait l'hôtel Cristallo, cinq fois étoilé, à Cortina où ont séjourné de nombreuses célébrités et membres de familles royales, comme le roi d'Égypte, le roi de Serbie, le roi Albert de Belgique, Leo Tolstoy, Klaus Kinski, Brigitte Bardot, Shirley Bassey, Frank Sinatra, David Niven, Claudia Cardinale ou Peter Sellers pour n'en citer que quelques-uns.
Quelques films y ont également été tournés, comme La Panthère Rose, L'Express du colonel Von Ryan ou James Bond.
Leo était décrit comme une personne très sage et organisée, un bon vivant.
À côté du hockey il a également implanté le curling en Italie et à Cortina.
Lors des Jeux olympiques d'hiver de 1956, il était l'un des membres du comité d'organisation du tournoi de hockey.
