His father played varsity ice hockey. His one-year older brother Nate toon but he mostly played baseball. Ben played in three sports in high school (ice hockey, football and baseball).
Undrafted NCAA star (conference MVP) who signed with Colorado after his strong Olympic tournament and scored a goal in his first NHL game four days later (April 16, 2022).
Smart center with fast skating abilities and a quick shot release.
Small size (5′11″). He could improve his play without the puck and positioning.

Son père a joué au hockey sur glace en université, son frère aîné Nate aussi pendant un an mais il a surtout joué au baseball. Ben a pratiqué trois sports au lycée (hockey, football américain et baseball).
Non drafté, il a démontré son talent offensif avec l'université du Minnesota en étant élu meilleur joueur de sa conférence (Big Ten). Il a signé avec l'Avalanche du Colorado le 12 avril 2022 à la faveur d'un bon tournoi olympique et a marqué son premier but en NHL quatre jours plus tard.
Centre au patinage rapide qui comprend bien le jeu et sait déclencher vite son tir.
Handicapé par une taille moyenne (1m80), il peut améliorer son jeu et son positionnement sans palet.
