His father Gottlob Munz was of German estraction and worked as a baker in Chamonix.
Tall player and a very good skater, like many of the Chamonix players of that time.
Charles Munz quit hockey during the 1932/33 season when it was revealed that he was payed to be a skating instructor in Paris.
He became a very good alpinist instead. In April 1937 his good friend, and former teammate André Bossoney badly fractured his leg in three places while the two of them were skiing in Chamonix (at 2100 m). The weather conditions were poor and Munz helped his friend to a nearby cabin and then went out to seek help. He heroically managed to get through the bad weather and get the help needed for Bossoney, thus saving his life.
Seven years later in 1943, Munz once again saved the life of two alpinists that were stuck on a ledge. Munz and four other guides, including ex-hockey player André Charlet saved the two men after a 16-hour rescue operation.
His last name was often spelled as "Muntz" in the newspapers.
His birth name according to his birth certificate was spelled "Munz".
He was part of the French resistance during WW II and was killed in an accident.

Son père Gottlob Munz, d'origine allemande, travaillait comme boulanger à Chamonix.
Joueur grand et très bon patineur, comme beaucoup de joueurs de Chamonix de l'époque.
Charles Munz arrêta le hockey en 1932/33, suspendu pour professionnalisme pour avoir été payé comme instructeur de patinage à Paris.
Il devint un excellent alpiniste. En avril 1937 son bon ami et ancien coéquipier André Bossoney s'est fracturé la jambe à trois endroits alors que les deux skiaient à Chamonix (à 2100 m).
Les conditions météo étaient difficiles mais Munz aida son ami à rejoindre un refuge puis est ressorti chercher de l'aide. Il est héroïquement parvenu à braver les conditions dantesques et à aller chercher l'aide nécessaire pour Bossoney, ce qui lui sauva la vie.
Sept ans plus tard en 1943, Munz a également sauvé la vie de deux alpinistes coincés dans un gouffre. Munz et quatre autres guides, dont l'ancien joueur André Charlet, les ont sauvés après une opération de sauvetage de 16 heures.
Son nom de famille était parfois écrit "Muntz" dans les journaux, mais l'acte de naissance fait bien mention de l'orthographe "Munz".
Membre de la résistance française durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il fut tué lors d'un accident.
