Son of insurance worker Václav (Wenzl) Nekola (b.1856), a native of Sedlec, a small village in the Prague-East District, and Milena (Amalia) Kursová (b.1861). Jiří also had two younger brothers.
He played for the German speaking clubs in Prague. First emerged as a bandy player with Deutsche Sportklub Prag in 1907/08. Later on he continued to play in Prague for Deutsche Eishockey Gesellschaft and Deutsche Fussball Club. Was also a good oarsman who competed in rowing.

Fils de l'agent d'assurance Václav (Wenzl) Nekola (né en 1856), un natif de Sedlec, petit village du district de Prague-Est, et Milena (Amalia) Kursová (née en 1861). Jiří avait aussi deux frères plus jeunes.
Il jouait pour les clubs germanophones de Prague. Il s'est d'abord fait connaître comme joueur de bandy avec le Deutsche Sportklub Prag en 1907/08. Il a ensuite continué à joue à Prague pour la Deutsche Eishockey Gesellschaft et le Deutsche Fussball Club. C'était aussi un bon rameur qui participait à des compétitions d'aviron.
