Born in Väddö, an island in the Roslagen district. His parents divorced in 1916 and together with his older sister, he lived with his mother was Anna-Maria Jansson in Väddö until 1923.
After that he moved in with his re-married father to the suburbs of Stockholm (Finnboda, Nacka). His father Karl-Olof (b.1868) worked as a steamboatmaster.
Played with Nacka SK between 1931 and 1935. Spent seven seasons with AIK, winning a league title with them in 1938.
Finished his playing career in another Stockholm club, Reymersholms IK in 1944.
Represented Sweden 33 times, scoring 8 goals. He couldn't play in World championships in 1938 because he was injured.
He worked as a sheet metal worker in his younger days, before taking a job with General Motors Nord during the war as a fitter and welder.
He married in 1941 and divorced in 1962.

Il déménagea ensuite avec son père remarié dans la banlieue de Stockholm (Finnboda, Nacka). Son père Karl-Olof, né en 1868, était capitaine de navire.
Il joua pour le Nacka SK entre 1931 et 1935. Il passa ensuite sept ans à l'AIK et remporta la ligue en 1938.
Sa carrière se termina dans un autre club de Stockholm, le Reymersholms IK, en 1944.
33 sélections en équipe de Suède, 8 buts. Il ne put pas participer aux championnats du monde 1938 parce qu'il était blessé.
Il travailla comme ouvrier tôlier dans sa jeunesse, avant de devenir monteur et soudeur pour General Motors Nord durant la guerre.
Bertil se maria en 1941 et divorça en 1962.
