Small and nimble player with good skating technique. Worked as a merchant.
Aside from hockey he was an excellent basketball (despite being rather short), handball and field hockey (MAC) player, winning titles in both basketball and handball.
In ice hockey he emerged with BKE Budapest second team in 1935/36. Ott was promoted to the first team in 1939 and played there until 1946.
He moved to Milan, appearing in his first game in December 1946. Ott scored 18 goals in his first 20 Italian games.
In December 1947 he was an emergency replacement as a coach for the Italian national team, substituting for Swiss Othmar Delnon.
Continued to play in Italy for HC Bolzano (1948-49), Diavoli Rossoneri Milano (1949-52, 53/54) and HC Alleghe (1952/53, 54-60). Playing coach for Alleghe, and occasionally played up until 1960. His most successful stint in Italy was with Diavoli Rossoneri Milano, where he scored 23 goals in 63 games.
Ott then coached HC Torino in the early 1960s, before returning back to HC Bolzano where he tutored many of the young players.
He also coached the Italian junior national team in 1966 and 1967.
Aside from coaching, Ott also refereed some international games in the mid 1950s.
During the winters he ran the local bar/restaurant (Lido) at Bolzano ice hockey rink in Bolzano. He and his wife proudly prepared various Hungarian dishes to their guests. "Sandro" as he was called, was very popular among the locals for his upbeat demeanor.
After his death, Bolzano inaugurated the yearly "Sandor Ott Pokal" tournament.

Joueur petit et agile avec une bonne with technique de patinage. Commerçant dans la vie civile.
Sportif complet qui excellait au basket-ball (malgré sa taille), au handball et au hockey sur gazon avec le MAC, remportant des titres tant au basket qu'au hand.
Sur la glace, il apparaît avec la réserve du BKE en 1935/36, est promu dans l'équipe première en 1939 et y joue jusqu'en 1946.
Parti à Milan où il joue son premier match en décembre 1946, Ott marque 18 buts lors de ses 20 premiers matchs italiens.
Appelé en décembre 1947 pour remplacer en urgence l'entraîneur suisse de l'équipe nationale italienne Othmar Delnon.
Il continua sa carrière italienne au HC Bolzano (1948-49), avec les Diavoli Rossoneri Milano (de 1949 à 1952 et la saison 1953/54) et le HC Alleghe (1952/53, puis de 1954 à 1960). Entraîneur-joueur d'Alleghe, il joue occasionnellement jusqu'en 1960. Son passage le plus réussi en Italie a été avec les Diavoli Rossoneri, quand il marque 23 buts en 63 rencontres. Ott arbitre aussi quelques rencontres internationales au milieu des années 1950.
Ott entraîne le HC Torino au début des années 1960, avant de retourner au HC Bolzano où il fut le mentor de nombreux jeunes joueurs.
Il entraîne également la sélection italienne junior en 1966 et 1967.
Durant l'hiver il tenait le bar/restaurant (Lido) de la patinoire de Bolzano, où sa femme et lui préparaient régulièrement des plats hongrois.
"Sandro", comme on l'appelait, était très apprécié des locaux pour sa bonne humeur communicative.
Après sa mort, Bolzano inaugura le tournoi annuel "Sandor Ott Pokal" en sa mémoire.
