Slovakian born and trained player who defected in the early 1980s. Was granted asylum in France, where his status as a political refugee prevented him from playing hockey during 18 months.
He then went to North America where he attended a Quebec Nordiques training camp in the NHL 1981. Was not retained and spent two seasons in the AHL instead.
Back in France, he agreed to a sham marriage with a Nice hairdresser to speed up his naturalization process. The groom and the bride eventually fell in love, turning the mock wedding into a real one.
Represented France 114 times (26 goals). Scored more than 600 career points in over 500 games.
Retired in 1996 and came out for one game comebacks in 1997/98 (Rouen) and 2004/05 (Nice). Became a hockey coach after his playing career ended.

Né en Slovaquie dans ce qui était encore la Tchécoslovaquie communiste, il fit défection au tout début des années 1980. Accueilli en France en tant que réfugié politique, il devait attendre dix-huit mois avant de pouvoir rejouer au hockey sur le sol français.
Il passa alors deux ans en Amérique du Nord, en AHL, après avoir participé sans succès à un camp d'entraînement des Nordiques de Québec en 1981.
il revint en France où il accepta un mariage arrangé avec une coiffeuse niçoise afin d'accélérer sa naturalisation. Pour la belle histoire, la mariage devint sincère.
114 sélections en équipe de France (26 buts). Plus de 600 buts en carrière en un peu plus de 500 matches.
A pris sa retraite en 1996 avant de s'offrir deux revenez-y, très brefs, avec Rouen en 1997-98 et Nice en 2004-2005. Devenu entraîneur du HC Nice avant l'ascension des Azuréens vers l'élite. S'occupe aujourd'hui de leurs jeunes après avoir été en charge des U18 de Rouen.
