His father Frederick Bonney was born in Pulaski, NY and Ray himself was born in Phoenix, NY.
Always cool and alert in goal, no matter how strenuous or rough a game became.
Grew up in Ottawa, Canada where he first tended goal.
Played competitive hockey in Canada with Hull Excelsiors in 1909 and later for Cobalt Lake.
Served as an assistant physical instructor for nine months in Camp Lee,VA during WW I.
Stricken with apenciditis when he first arrived to Pittsburgh and spent a few months in hospital.
Invited to the US Olympic team in 1924 but declined because of business reasons.
Officially retired in 1924 but made a comeback attempt with Pittsburgh Pirates (NHL) in Oct.1926, returning to the ice for his first practice on Oct.26 of that same year.
His last known club was the Detroit Millionaires in 1927. Worked as a salesman.
He is often confused with a man named Raymond Elmer Bonney (Apr.2,1892-Oct.15,1979).

Il a grandi à Ottawa, Canada où il prit place dans les cages pour la première fois.
Il joua au hockey de compétition au Canada avec les Hull Excelsiors en 1909 et plus tard avec Cobalt Lake.
Il a servi comme assistant aux instructions physiques pendant neuf mois à Camp Lee durant la Première Guerre mondiale.
Il souffrit de l'appendicite quand il arriva à Pittsburgh et passa quelques mois à l'hôpital.
Il fut invité aux Jeux Olympiques de 1924 mais déclina l'offre pour des raisons d'affaires.
Officiellement retraité en 1924 mais fit un bref retour avec les Pittsburgh Pirates (NHL) en octobre 1926, alors qu'il était retourné sur la glace pour un entraînement le 26 octobre de cette même année.
Son dernier club connu fut les Detroit Millionaires en 1927. Il travailla comme représentant de commerce.
Il était souvent confondu avec un homme appelé Raymond Elmer Bonney (2 avril 1892 - 15 octobre 1979).
