Player of Czech ancestry. Played eight seasons in Nationalliga A and nine in Nationalliga B. Represented Switzerland 13 times.
In 1996 he started studying Chinese at the University of Zürich.
Gradually his interest in studies outweighed the motivation to play hockey.
He had been fascinated by Asian culture since childhood.
In 1999, he decided to retire from the sport to fully devote himself to learning Chinese and moved to Shanghai where he studied at Fudan University.
Majored in Chinese and took up tai chi, a traditional Chinese exercise regime and incorporated meditation on a daily basis.
A modest and quiet man, interested in many aspects of Chinese culture, including the language, philosophy, medicine and martial arts.
Fluent in Chinese, English, French, German, Czech and Slovak.

Joueur d'origines tchèques. Il joua huit saisons en LNA et neuf en LNB. 13 fois international suisse.
En 1996 il démarra des études de chinois à l'Université de Zürich.
Progressivement son intérêt pour les études a pris le dessus sur sa volonté de jouer au hockey.
Il fut fasciné par la culture asiatique dès son enfance.
En 1999, il a décidé de se retirer du sport pour se focaliser uniquement sur son apprentissage du chinois, et partit pour Shanghaï où il étudia l'Université Fudan.
Diplômé de chinois et pratiquant le tai chi, un exercice traditionnel chinois qui inclue une méditation au quotidien.
Homme calme et modeste, interessé par de nombreux aspects de la culture chinoise, dont la langue, la philosophie, la médecine et les arts martiaux.
Il parle couramment le chinois, l'anglais, le français, l'allemand, le tchèque et le slovaque.
