As a youngster he played for LTC Praha and I. ČLTK Praha.
Later he played for Motorlet Praha (1949-58), Sparta Praha (1959-61, 63-67) and Dukla Jihlava (1961-63).
Appeared in around 330 league games, scoring 153 goals.
Represented Czechoslovakia 30 times (11 goals).
After his playing career he became one of the most respected ice hockey coaches in Europe. Held many seminars around the world.
Led Czechoslovakia to a World Championship gold in 1985 and Czech Republic in 1996.
Inducted into the Czech and IIHF Hall of Fame. Passed away from complications of pneumonia.

Intronisé au Hall of Fame de l'IIHF. Décédé des complications à la suite d'une pneumonie.
