Older brother of Eric Carruthers. His grandfather John Carruthers was a Liberal candidate in Kingston, ON, in 1872 and 1874.
Colin Carruthers was awarded the Military Cross in WW1, in recognition of gallantry during active operations against the enemy during the disastrous Gallipoli landings.
Twice wounded in WW1. Served with the Dublin Fusiliers as a captain in India (early 1930s).
Carried the British flag at the 1924 Winter Olympics.

Grand frère d'Eric Carruthers. Son grand-père, John Carruthers, fut candidat pour le Parti libéral (centriste) dans le district de Kingston, Ontario, en 1872 et 1874.
Son petit-fils Colin, engagé dans la Première guerre mondiale aux côtés des alliés, reçut la croix militaire à l'issue des combats, en reconnaissance de sa ténacité lors de la bataille de Gallipoli, échec il est vrai cuisant pour la Grande-Bretagne.
Blessé deux fois lors de la Grande guerre, il fut affecté en Inde au début des années 30, en tant que capitaine d'infanterie (Fusiliers royaux de Dublin).
Porte-drapeau de la délégation olympique de Grande-Bretagne aux Jeux d'hiver 1924.
