His grandfather changed the family name from Kyriazopoulos to Carson upon emigrating to the United States from Greece. Started skating at the age of five.
Followed the Red Wings and Marcel Dionne growing up, as his father owned parking lots near the Olympia stadium.
Finesse player with explosive quickness. Superb skater who could cut on a dime. Dangerous shot and especially effective on powerplays.
Together with Wayne Gretzky, the only player to score 50 goals in an NHL-season before his 20th birthday, in 1987/88. In the next summer he was part of the "trade of the century" and went to Edmonton in exchange of Gretzky.
One year later he asked to be exchanged to his beloved Red Wings and spent four seasons in his native Michigan. He also finished his career in Detroit in 1998, but with the IHL Vipers team.
Went on to work as a financial advisor.

En émigrant de Grèce vers les États-Unis, son grand-père maternel modifia son nom de famille, Kyriazopoulos, en Carson. Son petit-fils Jimmy commença à patiner dès ses cinq ans.
Petit, Carson était fan de Marcel Dionne mais aussi des Red Wings de Détroit, car son père possédait des aires de stationnement proches de l'Olympia Stadium, ancien antre des Wings.
Un jeu très fin, une vitesse d'exécution ravageuse. Patineur d'une remarquable agilité, il avait un tir redoutable, très efficace en avantage numérique.
Il détient avec Wayne Gretzky la distinction d'avoir accompli une saison régulière de NHL à 50 buts avant même ses 20 ans, en 1987/88. À l'intersaison, il est justement parmi les contreparties pour Edmonton de "l'échange du siècle" de Gretzky.
Un an plus tard, il demande à être échangé chez les Red Wings et passe quatre saisons dans son Michigan natal. Il y terminera aussi sa carrière en 1998... mais en ligue mineure avec les Vipers en IHL.
Devenu conseiller financier.
