His grandfather Wayne and his father Paul both were ice hockey players and coaches.
Cole started skating at 2 to imitate his 4-year-old brother Brock. They would also play together in the NCAA.
Left-handed in everyday life. His father taught him to shoot from the right because he found it was a competitive advantage.
Small size (173 cm). Accurate wrist shot with a quick release. He finds open spaces.
An elite mid-range goalscorer who has to learn to get closer to high-scoring slot area.
Broke all records in the US National Development Program and left with a US record of 14 goals in Under 18 2019 World Championships.
World junior champion and NCAA best player with the Wisconsin Badgers in 2021.
In 2024 he changed his jersey number from 22 to 13 in honor of late Johnny Gaudreau, his teammate during 2024 World Championships.

Cole commence à patiner dès 2 ans pour imiter son frère de 4 ans Brock, futur coéquipier d'université.
Gaucher dans la vie. Son père lui a appris à tirer de la droite, y voyant un avantage compétitif.
Petit gabarit de 1m73. Pur buteur au tir du poignet précis et fulgurant, qui trouve les espaces libres.
Tireur d'élite à mi-distance, il doit apprendre à se rapprocher du slot où se marquent beaucoup de buts.
Il bat tous les records de buts du programme national de développement des Etats-Unis, qu'il quitte sur un record américain de 14 buts au Mondial des moins de 18 ans 2019.
Champion du monde junior et meilleur joueur de NCAA avec Wisconsin en 2021.
En 2024 il a pris le numéro 13 (à la place) du 22 pour honorer la mémoire de Johnny Gaudreau, son coéquipier aux championnats du monde quatre mois plus tôt.
