His father was legendary Hall of Fame player, referee and coach King Clancy. The younger Clancy didn’t have the flair and charisma of his father but had a lot of skills and was a good skater, but never had those overall qualities to establish himself as a regular NHL-player. Noted as a hard working and hard hitting defensive player in his days. Capable of playing both as a defenseman and forward.
Played his junior hockey at St.Michael’s College, then spent several seasons with Canada’s national team before turning pro with the Leafs.
Claimed by Oakland in the 1967 expansion draft. Repurchased a season later by the Leafs. Attended Carleton University in Ottawa. Obtained a stock-brokers license in the early 1970s. Retired as a player in 1975.

Fils du grand King Clancy, arbitre et entraîneur de renom introduit au Hall of Fame. Privé du charisme et de la connaissance du jeu de son père, Terry avait tout de même de nombreux talents en sa faveur, dont le patinage, mais pas la palette complète nécessaire pour en faire un cadre de la NHL. Se tailla une réputation de joueur sérieux et costaud, volontaire sur l'homme et capable de jouer aux deux extrêmes de la glace.
Fit son hockey junior au St-Michael's College, voyagea ensuite quelques années avec le Team Canada du Père Bauer avant de décrocher un contrat pro chez les Leafs.
Oakland obtint ses droits lors de la draft d'expansion de 1967, rachetés l'année suivante par les Leafs. Clancy prépara très tôt son après-carrière. Il obtint un diplôme de courtier en bourse à l'Université Carleton d'Ottawa au début des années 1970 et arrêta le hockey en 1975, à 32 ans.
