A cerebral netminder with an excellent reading of the game. Known for delivering perfect breakout passes.
Big body (191 cm) who controls his lateral movements and his rebounds very well. Not the fastest reflexes.
His mother Daniela grew up in Fribourg, Switzerland, and his father, Brian, in Montreal. They met when Brian was a professional goalie for Fribourg in 1994/95.
Brian opened a goaltending school and coached his two sons, who also played soccer.
Joel was born in the USA and thus has three citizenships. He speaks German and Swiss-German but can't represent Switzerland because he never played there. He hadn't been called to any national junior team but became a hot topic when he became a top NHL goaltender in Seattle. As he had never asked for a Canadian passport he eventually played for Team USA... and immediately became world champion 2025.

Grand (191 cm) gardien cérébral qui lit très bien le jeu et relance le palet à la perfection.
Ses réflexes ne sont pas les plus rapides mais ce portier athlétique contrôle ses mouvements latéraux et ses rebonds.
Son père canadien (montréalais) Brian Daccord a passé six saisons à Ambrì-Piotta et a fait un autre passage plus court en Suisse à Fribourg... où il a rencontré sa future femme Daniela.
Brian a ouvert une école de gardiens et a entraîné ses deux fils, qui ont aussi joué au soccer.
Américain par le droit du sol, leur fils Joel a donc trois nationalités. Même s'il parle allemand et suisse-allemand, il n'est pas éligible à représenter la Suisse, où il n'a pas joué. Jamais appelé dans une autre équipe nationale junior car peu coté, tout le monde le veut quand il devient un titulaire performant de NHL à Seattle. N'ayant jamais demandé son passeport canadien, il dit finalement oui aux États-Unis... et devient immédiatement champion du monde.
