His father Tobbe was a policeman and his mother Åsa was a personal trainer. Calle Johansson was a family friend and a role model.
Simon started skating at 4 and also played soccer as a defensive midfielder until 15. At the same age he established himself as an ice hockey defenceman instead of alternating as a forward. As an adult he trained mixed martial arts (MMA) to build his strength around the neck and develop his aggressiveness.
Big defenceman (199 cm) with a smooth and powerful skating stride. Skilled puckhandler and passer. Good anticipation in transition play.
Tough to play against because of his physicality and his active stick with a long reach. Strong shoulder hits.
Sometimes out of position and prone to bad penalties. Not very quick shot release.
Sixth overall NHL draft pick by Detroit in 2021.

Fils d'un policier (Tobbe) et d'une coach de fitness (Åsa). Calle Johansson, un ami de la famille, était un modèle naturel.
Simon a commencé à patiner à 4 ans et a joué au football comme milieu défensif jusqu'à 15 ans. C'est aussi à cet âge qu'il s'est fixé comme défenseur au hockey sur glace après avoir aussi évolué en attaque jusque là. Adulte, il pratique le MMA l'été pour se muscler le long de sa colonne vertébale et apprendre à être plus agressif.
Grand gabarit (1m99) au patinage fluide et puissant. Passeur habile qui anticipe bien la position de ses attaquants dans les jeux de transition.
Difficile à affronter en raison de sa force physique, de son allonge et de sa crosse active. Puissantes charges à l'épaule.
Parfois hors de position et indiscipliné. Son tir précis est armé avec trop peu de vélocité.
Choix numéro 6 de la draft 2021, repêché par Détroit.
