First learned to skate at the age of three and played his first hockey at the age of six.
Played for Calgary Cowboys in the old WHA 1975/76. Attended Los Angeles Kings training camp in 1979.
The hockey in North America at that time was pretty rough, and the smaller Haas was a finesse type of player, whose playing style was better suited for the European game.
In Europe he first briefly played both in Germany and Switzerland before settling down in France in the early 1980s, where he spent well over a decade playing.
During the opening league game of the 1986/87 season, he checked Charly Masse of Gap so unfortunately that Masse fell into the boards head first and got paralyzed.
Scored 1032 (475+557) career points in 906 games.
Retired in 1995 but made a five game comeback in 1997/98. Coached hockey in France.

Il a commencé à patiner à 3 ans et à jouer au hockey sur glace à 6 ans.
Il a joué pour les Calgary Cowboys dans l'ancienne WHA en 1975/76. Invité au camp des Los Angeles Kings en 1979.
Le hockey nord-américain était rude à cette époque, et le petit Haas était plus un joueur de finesse, mieux adapté au jeu européen.
En Europe il a d'abord brièvement joué en Allemagne et en Suisse avant de s'installer en France pour plus de dix ans.
Au premier match de la saison 1986/87, sa mise en échec sur Charly Masse de Gap a malheureusement laissé ce dernier paralysé après avoir heurt la balustrade tête la première.

Retraité en 1995, il a rechaussé les patins pour cinq rencontres en 1997/98. Il a été entraîneur en France.
