Grew up in a rather simple household with four brothers and three sisters. His father Ernst Helge Johansson [1880-1961] was a day worker. His mother was Hulda Fredrika Andersson [1882-1962].
He had a long playing career, spending the majority of it with Hammarby IF and AIK. Scored almost 100 goals in more than 200 games. Retired in 1952.

Issu d'une famille modeste, fils de Ernst Helge Johansson (1880-1961), travailleur journalier (homme à tout faire payé à la tâche), et de Hulda Fredrika Andersson (1882-1962) qui lui donnèrent quatre frères et trois soeurs.
Joua longtemps pour l'époque, c'est-à-dire jusque 36 ans, principalement avec Hammarby et l'AIK Solna. Environ 100 buts inscrits en plus de 200 matches.
