Younger brother of Jimmie Kilburn. Another brother, Colin, was also a good hockey player. Described as a workhorse on the ice and a speedster. Liked to be involved in all game situations. His drive and determination was often an inspiration to his teammates.
Also a good baseball player. Avid fisherman and the a former president and founding member of the Edmonton Trout Fishing Club.

Petit frère de Jimmie Kilburn. Un autre de ses frères, prénommé Colin, fut également un hockeyeur émérite. Douglas lui-même était très rapide sur glace et réputé pour son acharnement au tâches ingrates, notamment les équipes spéciales. En cela, il était un modèle et une locomotive pour ses partenaires.
Champion du monde 1955 à l'issue d'un duel épique contre la jeune URSS. Doué au baseball et... à la pêche à la truite, au point qu'il fut membre-fondateur et président du Club des pêcheurs de truite d'Edmonton.
