Kjellström, Kurt Sigurd ("Biffen")

Position : C

19-03-1921 Stockholm, SWE
10-12-1965 Stockholm, SWE

Youth team / club formateur : Helgalunds Klubben

One of the most dangerous goalscorers in Swedish hockey history, tremendous drive to the net. Powerful center and a natural born goal scorer. Popular and likeable fellow. Natural talent. Excellent athlete who also played bandy and football (85 goals in 89 games).
Began playing ice hockey for Katarina Södra Folkskola in 1931 and then played for Helgalunds-Klubben in 1936 and BK Nordia. Played the majority of his career for the Stockholm club Hammarby IF, with stints in AIK Solna, Atlas Diesel and Södertälje SK.
Also nicknamed "Kurre Kjellis". He was in his prime during the war years and only represented Sweden 15 times. An exceptional goal scorer who bulged the twine 190 times in less than 150 games. Won the Swedish scoring championship seven times in a row (1940-46). He finished his playing career with Atlas Diesel. Unfortunately he battled the bottle and retired from ice hockey in 1951, at the age of 30.
He was lured out to make a comeback in 1960/61 at the age of 40. He played for Kungsholms IF in Division III with Holger Nurmela and became the top scorer on the team with 10 goals. He suffered a cerebral hemhorrage and spent his last years in a wheelchair.
Inducted into the Swedish Hockey Hall of Fame.
