A calm and introvert goalie with superb concentration in important games.
Had Seth Martin and Vladimir Dzurilla as idols growing up. Played 420 league games. Represented Czechoslovakia 99 times. Voted the best goaltender in the 1982 and 1985 World Championships.
His best friends on the national team was Jiří Lála and Antonin Stavjana. Carried the Czechoslovakian flag at the opening ceremony of the 1984 Winter Olympics. Retired in 1987 when his authorization to play abroad expired.
Got a trainer diploma from Charles University in Prague in September 1992 with a work about ice hockey goaltender technique. Also had an engineer diploma.
Founded a sales company (sports equipement and containers) and an advertising firm. Became a politician. Also worked as a goalie coach in Berlin and as an expert hockey commentator.
Inducted into the Czech Hockey Hall of Fame.

Gardien réservé et serein doué d'un flegme étonnant, surtout pendant les matches à enjeu.
Prit Vladimir Dzurilla et le Canadien Seth Martin comme exemples de jeunesse. 420 matches de championnat et 99 sélections pour la Tchécoslovaquie, meilleur gardien des Mondiaux 1982 et 1985.
Grand ami de Jiří Lála et d'Antonin Stavjana, il fut désigné porte-drapeau de la délégation tchécoslovaque lors des Jeux olympiques1984.
Il a passé deux ans en Allemagne (Rosenheim) puis a pris sa retraite en 1987 à l'expiration de son autorisation de jouer à l'étranger.
Titulaire d'un diplôme d'ingénieur, il a aussi obtenu un diplôme d'entraîneur de l'université Charles de Prague en septembre 1992 avec un mémoire sur la technique des gardiens qui s'appuyait sur les trois derniers Mondiaux et les JO d'Albertville.
Il a fondé cet été-là une entreprise de commerce (de matériel sportif et de containers) puis a créé plus tard une agence publicitaire. Devenu politicien. Il a aussi travaillé comme entraîneur de gardiens à Berlin et comme consultant hockey pour la télévision tchèque.
Introduit au Hall of Fame du hockey tchèque.
