Started out as a forward but shifted to defense and became a reliable stay-at-home defenseman who played his entire career for his hometown of Groningen. He was known for his low hard shot from the point.
He made his debut for the Groningen team as a 16-year old, and played there between 1970-84. In total he played 339 games for Groningen, scoring 337 points (166+171).
He made his debut with Netherlands on March 20, 1976 and played a total of 40 games. Went on to coach in hockey for a while after his retirement as a player.

Bien qu'il ait débuté en attaque, il s'est vite mué en un défenseur défensif réputé pour sa fiabilité et son gros slap ras-glace.
Débute à 16 ans pour les GIJS de sa ville natale, Groningue, un club pour lequel il jouera toute sa carrière, entre 1970 et 1984, amassant 337 points (166+171) en 339 matches.
Le 20 mars 1976, il fêtait la première de ses quarante sélections pour l'équipe des Pays-Bas. Entraîneur quelque temps après sa carrière de joueur.
