Born in St.Catharines, ON and grew up in Sudbury, ON. Grew up playing AAA hockey in Sudbury. After graduating from the local midget ranks, he pursued a four-year NCAA career with the Ferris State Bulldogs in Michigan. Was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1990 NHL Supplemental draft.
Growing up his role model was tough guy Dave Semenko. Krumpschmid opted to head overseas to continue his playing days. Gained Austrian citizenship and got to represent Austria in the Olympics and World Championships.
Retired in 2000 and then made a brief comeback during the 2003/04 season. Went on to reside in Grand Rapids. Worked as the head coach of the Michigan Minor Midget AAA Nationals. Worked as a Regional Managing Director (Mortgage Sales) at NMI Holdings, Inc., specializing in business development, account management and territory building.

Né à St.Catharines dans l'Ontario, il a grandi à Sudbury dans la même province. C'est dans cette dernière ville qu'il se forme au hockey avant de partir pour quatre saisons de hockey universitaire avec les Ferris State Bulldogs, dans le Michigan aux États-Unis. Drafté en repêchage par les Canucks en 1990.
Admirateur de Dave Semenko, ce qui donne idée de son style de jeu, il a exporté sa rudesse en Autriche, pays parental d'origine, le paysage nord-américain lui étant bouché. Devenu citoyen autrichien au bout de quatre ans, il a participé à deux Mondiaux et aux JO d'hiver pour son pays d'adoption.
Arrête le hockey en 2000 si on excepte un bref retour dans l'obscure UHL en 2003-2004. Résident de Grand Rapids, dans le Michigan, il a entraîné les midget AAA de l'État tout en étant directeur régional des ventes et des crédits d'un promoteur immobilier.
