His father was a bus driver et his mother worked in a kindergarten. He built his strength when he was chopping firewood with an axe at his grandmother's home. Denis got married early and had the first of his four children at only 19.
Emerged slowly as a raw prospect. Solid size and a type of defenseman willing to get involved physically. Good at clearing the crease in front of his own goal. Strong in his own zone. Extremely hard shot, one of the most powerful in the world. Nicknamed the "Tsar Cannon".
Occasionally had problems on the rush and could be beaten one on one by skilled players. Sometimes lapses in his positional play.
Drafted in the NHL by Nashville Predators 2004. Played only in Russia until 2019, before moving to South Korea and winning titles durinf three years in Miercurea-Ciuc (Csíkszereda), Romania.
Known as the first man in Omsk to buy a Ferrari. He kept it three years in his Siberian garage and started the engine only to hear the sound. Then he sold it and invested in real estate.

Son père était chauffeur de bus et sa mère travaille dans une crèche. Celui qui se définit comme un "vrai male sibérien" tient sa force d'avoir coupé du bois à la hache chez sa grand-mère dans sa jeunesse. Marié jeune, il a eu le premier de ses quatre enfants à 19 ans seulement, deux ans avant de se faire drafter en NHL par les Predators.
Ce défenseur maousse (1,91m, 113 kg) allait au duel, surtout pour libérer son enclave, ce à quoi il parvenait souvent. Il est surtout connu pour son slap de mammouth, qu'il met toutefois un peu trop de temps à armer.
Surnommé le "canon du Tsar", allusion au canon Pouchka - jamais utilisé - qui fut le plus grand du monde et est aujourd'hui un monument historique à l'intérieur du Kremlin.
Vite dépassé ou hors de position quand le jeu devenait très rapide ou face à des adversaires à la technique de pointe.
Il effectue sa carrière en Russie jusqu'en 2019, année où il transite par la Corée du Sud - suivant Frolov - avant de remporter ses seuls titres pendant ses trois ans en Roumanie à Miercurea-Ciuc.
Connu comme le premier habitant d'Omsk à avoir acheté une Ferrari, peu adaptée au climat sibérien. Il l'a gardée trois ans dans son garage, où il la démarrait pour entendre le bruit du moteur. Il l'a ensuite revendue pour investir dans l'immobilier.
Il aurait dû débuter aux championnats du monde dès 2005 mais a subi une déchirure acromio-claviculaire à deux minutes de la fin du dernier match de préparation contre la Suède. Accrédité aux Jeux olympiques mais remplacé au dernier moment en lui disant qu'il est encore jeune.
