His direct ancestor was Pierre Lacroix, the man who developed fine paper for rolling cigarettes in 1660.
The family business evolved and in 1736 the family acquired their own paper-mill.
François Lacroix, founder of the Lacroix Rolling Paper company, was issued a license in 1796 from Napoléon Bonaparte to produce rolling papers for his troops.
The company later became the famous Rizla rolling paper company. In fact the company even had a factory at Robert Lacroix’s birth town Mazères-sur-Salat (Haute-Garonne) until 2002, when Imperial Tobacco closed Rizla's historic factory.
The Rizla company is still thriving though and accounts for 15% of Imperial Tobacco’s almost € 2,3 billion yearly profit.
“Bobby” as he was known, at one time helped one of his brothers in leading the company.
He was as an excellent skater with a fine shot. Also good at poking away pucks from opponents.
One of the original French players who played the game already way back in 1905. Lacroix also was an international hockey referee.
His teammate in Paris, George Geran, the first NHL’er to have played in Europe mentioned Lacroix as one of his three teammates that were good enough to play on any team in the United States. He also wrote that the Lacroix name was widely known in the United States because of his name which was found on cigarette papers.
He was in the air force during WW I and was decorated with the Cross of War.
At the 1913 LIHG tournament he played under the pseudonym “Landais”.
