His grandfather was born in Albania (from his fathers side) and immigrated to the United States in 1913.
Dick was born in Worcester, MA but moved to Auburn, MA when he was in second grade.
He is often listed as Richard A. Lamby, but his birth certificate have no middle name.
He learned to skate on figure skates on Crystal Pond before he took up hockey in Auburn.
Had a stellar college career where he won many awards.
Never caught on in the NHL and played mostly in the minor leagues. Retired in 1982.
Turned down a chance to sign with the Rangers in 1982 and instead became a graduate assistant with Boston University for the 1982-83 season.
Considered his Olympic experience to be his greatest memory as a player.
The day after the Olympics ended Lamby and teammate Steve Jensen sneaked into the Soviet Union compound wearing Soviet Union sweatsuits they had swapped for their U.S. gear and partied with the Russians.
Lived in the Boston area and was involved in many charitable causes.
Later became a fishing captain. In 1986 he went on to own Mass. Weatherization Inc., installators of insulation and replacement windows on the North Shore and around Boston.

Dick est né Worcester et déménagea à Auburn, également dans le Massachussets, à sa deuxième année d'école primaire.
Il est souvent référencé comme Richard A. Lamby, mais son certificat de naissance ne compte aucun autre nom.
Il apprit à patiner sur des patins artistiques au Crystal Pond avant de se mettre au hockey à Auburn.
Il connut une carrière universitaire triomphale où il reçut de nombreux prix.
Il n'a jamais percé en NHL et joua principalement en ligues mineures. Retraité en 1982.
Il refusa une proposition de signer chez les Rangers en 1982 et arriva à l'université de Boston lors de la saison 1982-83.
Il considéra les Jeux olympiques comme le plus grand moment de sa carrière de joueur.
Le lendemain de la cérémonie de clôture des Jeux, Lamby et son coéquipier Steve Jensen pénétrèrent dans le camp soviétique avec le survêtement local qu'ils avaient troqué contre leur équipement américain, et célébrèrent avec les Russes la fin des Jeux.
Il a vécu dans la banlieue de Boston et s'est investi dans de nombreuses causes caritatives.
Il devint plus tard capitaine d'un bateau de pêche. En 1986 il devint propriétaire de Mass. Weatherization Inc., société d'installateurs de fenêtres et d'isolants sur la côte nord et autour de Boston.
