From an athletic family. His brother Harald also a professional ice hockey player and his father played professional handball in Austria.
Was a finalist in the 2008/09 Eastern College Athletic Conference [ECAC] Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year Award.
Called up to the Austrian team for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi as a replacement for Fabian Weinhandl.
Spent seven years playing in North America before coming back to Europe in 2009.

Issu d'une famille d'athlètes. Son frère Harald est également hockeyeur professionnel et son père fut handballeur professionnel en Autriche.
Finaliste lors de la saison 2008/09 de la récompense de l'athlète de l'année (catégorie hockey) en Eastern College Athletic Conference [ECAC].
Il fut appelé en sélection pour les Jeux de 2014 à Sochi en remplacement de Fabian Weinhandl.
Il joua sept saisons en Amérique du Nord avant de revenir en Europe en 2009.
Grand ami et témoin de mariage de Thomas Vanek.
