Lazarov, Dimitar

Position : D

18-06-1946 Dupnitsa, BLG

Lazarov was a mainstay on the Bulgarian national team for almost 15 years.
He was born in Dupnitsa, a town in southwestern Bulgaria, at the foot of the highest mountain in the Balkan Peninsula – the Rila Mountain, and about 65 km south of the capital Sofia.
In 1948 the town was renamed Stanke Dimitrov; in 1949 it was called Marek; the name was once again changed to Stanke Dimitrov in 1950 until 1989.
However, some sources have him born in Pleven, in northern Bulgaria.
Lazarov played for Levski-Spartak Sofia and helped them win seven straight league titles between 1976 and 1982.
