Older brother of Erkki Lehtonen who also represented Finland.
Antero Lehtonen was a good goalscorer who managed to break into the NHL when it was rare for Finnish players to do so.
In Finland he was a good offensive player, but in Washington he he had to assume a more defensive role.
Had solid leadership qualities.
In the Finnish league, Lehtonen scored 416 points (266+150) in 513 games.
He represented Finland 60 times, scoring 23 points (9+14). He retired in 1987.
