First NHL player born in Louisiana when his father David coached an ECHL team in Baton Rouge (which existed for 7 years). Moved to Reading, PA at 1 and to Madison, WI at 7.
Despite his big size (196 cm and 100 kg) he grew up as a very offensive-minded defenceman. Great mobility and smooth skating. Good breakout passes.
He learnt to use his long reach to disrupt plays with an active stick but is prone to sloppy turnovers.
2021 USHL Defenseman of the Year. World champion 2025 with the USA but was a healthy scratch during the second week.

Premier joueur de NHL né en Louisiane, où son père David entraînait une équipe pro d'ECHL qui a duré 7 ans à Bâton-Rouge, Mason n'y a passé que la première année de sa vie. Il a commencé à patiner à Reading (Pennsylvanie) et a déménagé à Madison dans le Wisconsin à 7 ans.
Malgré sa grande taille (1m96 et 100 kg) il a grandi avec des instincts de défenseur très offensif. Très mobile, patineur fluide, il effectue des relances intéressantes.
Mais s'il a appris à utiliser son allonge pour perturber les actions adverses de la crosse, il reste sujet à des pertes de palet faiblardes dans sa zone.
Défenseur de l'année 2021 en USHL. Champion du monde 2025 mais envoyé en tribune comme réserviste à mi-tournoi.
