Younger brother of Dick Meredith. His father originated from Illinois and his mother from Indiana.
There were five hockey playing Meredith Brothers, Dick, Bob, Merv, Wayne and John.
They all grew up skating at Linden Hill Park, played high school hockey for Southwest where all competed in the State High School Tourney, and all five brothers played for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.
Played for University of Minnesota and later in St.Paul.
At the 1960 NCAA Championship, he was named to the All-Tournament team.
After his college career he played one year of minor league hockey, with the St. Paul Steers of the US Hockey League and the St.Paul Saints of the International Hockey League.

Il y avait cinq frères hockeyeurs chez les Meredith : Dick, Bob, Merv, Wayne and John.
Ils ont tous grandi en patinant à Linden Hill Park, jouant en scolaire pour le lycée Southwest où ils participaient au tournoi des lycées de l'Etat, et les cinq ont joué pour les Golden Gophers de l'Université du Minnesota.
Wayne a également joué plus tard pour St.Paul.
Il fut désigné dans l'équipe-type du championnat 1960 de NCAA.
Après sa carrière universitaire il joua un an en ligue mineure, avec les Steers de St.Paul Steers en US Hockey League et pour les Saints de St.Paul en International Hockey League.
