Ogawa holds the distinction of making the first ever Japanese league All-Star team in 1967. He scored four goals in eight championship games, making him one of the top scoring defensemen in the league.
He helped his team Iwakura Tomakomai win the league championship both in 1967 and 1968.
The Iwakura team based in the hockey hotbed of Tomakomai in northern Japan was sponsored by the Iwakura Group, a chemical manufacturer.
Several generations of players from the Ogawa family have kept the ice hockey tradition alive.
Jirō Ogawa passed away many years ago.

Ogawa a fait partie de la toute première équipe-type de la ligue japonaise en 1967. Il a marqué quatre buts en huit matchs de championnat, ce qui en faisait l'un des défenseurs les plus prolifiques.
Il a contribué au titre de champion du Japon pour l'Iwakura Tomakomai en 1967 et en 1968.
Cette équipe basée dans le fief de hockey de Tomakomai au nord du Japon était sponsorisée par le groupe d'industrie chimique Iwakura.
La famille Ogawa a produit plusieurs générations de joueurs de hockey, perpétrant la tradition familiale.
