One of the first Finnish players to attend an NHL training camp (Vancouver Canucks 1970). He also attended the training camp with St.Louis Blues.
Versatile player who had a long career. Coachable and smart player with really good puck skills.
Known as a fair player who put his team ahead of any personal accomplishments.
Strong on the puck and seldom panicked in pressed situations.
Not the fastest skater around, but made up for that with his savy.
Scored 498 (268+230) career league points in 477 games. Made the All-Star team eight years in a row, nine in total.
Formed a dangerous line in Ilves with Reijo Hakanen and Jorma Peltonen.
Played three seasons in Italy, winning a league title there in 1976 with HC Gardena.
Represented Finland 282 times, scoring 159 points (101+58).
Retired in 1983 and worked as a hockey coach for a while. Also worked for the city council of Tampere.
Inducted into the Finnish and IIHF Hockey Hall of Fame.

L'un des premiers joueurs finlandais à avoir rejoint un camp d'entraînement NHL (pour les Canucks de Vancouver en 1970). Il participa également à un camp des Blues de Saint-Louis.
Joueur polyvalent à la très longue carrière. Facile à entraîner et intelligent avec une très bonne technique.
Réputé joueur juste qui plaçait l'équipe avant ses intérêts.
Solide avec le palet, il ne paniquait pas facilement dans des situations de pressing.
Pas le plus rapide, mais il compensait par son style rassurant.
498 (268+230) points en 477 matchs en championnat. Désigné huit fois d'affilée dans l'équipe-type de la saison, et neuf fois au total.
Il formait au Ilves une ligne dangereuse avec Reijo Hakanen et Jorma Peltonen.
