Small (175 cm) and smart playmaking center with an excellent understanding for the game. Reliable defensively, conscientious and team-oriented. Average shot.
Only the second ever Liiga player who was raised in small club SoPa (the first being Otto Nieminen who was Finnish champion with TPS). His young brother Sasu also plays ice hockey.
Sami practiced athletics and jumped 2,50 m in pole vault at 12. Also won a silver medal in a downhill mountain biking Finnish championship.
He was hired by Lukko at 15 and won Finnish junior championship in 2021 and 2022.
Joined HPK in 2023. Broke through as their number one center in 2025/26 and scored two game-winning goals in the playoffs against his former team Lukko.
Ended his vacation in Spain when he got his first call from Finland national team in April 2026. He was sent home during 2026 World Championships to make room for Helenius... and was called back to Zurich two days later after Erholtz injury. Eventually he didn't play but got a gold medal.

Petit joueur de centre (175 cm). Créateur de jeu intelligent qui comprend très bien le hockey. Consciencieux, fiable défensivement et doté d'un esprit collectif. Tir moyen.
Deuxième joueur de l'histoire de la Liiga player à avoir été formé au SoPa (le premier étant Otto Nieminen qui fut champion de Finlande avec TPS). Son jeune frère Sasu a aussi joué au hockey.
Sami a pratiqué l'athlétisme et sautait 2,50 m à la perche à 12 ans. Collégien, il a aussi été vice-champion de Finlande en VTT de descente.
Recruté par Lukko à 15 ans, il remporte deux titres de champion de Finlande junior en hockey en 2021 et 2022.
Il rejoint HPK en 2023 et y perce comme centre numéro 1 en 2025/26, inscrivant deux buts gagnants en play-offs pour éliminer son ancien club Lukko.
Il interrompt ensuite ses vacances en Espagne quand il reçoit sa première convocation en équipe de Finlande. Réserviste renvoyé à la maison pendant les Mondiaux 2026 pour faire place à Helenius... puis rappelé deux jours plus tard après la blessure d'Erholtz. Il obtient finalement une médaille d'or sans avoir joué.
