Technical player with good scoring and playing instincts. Developed leadership and authority qualities on the ice over the years.
Intelligent, calm and collected, seldom got nervous. Very modern type of player in his heydays. There were talks of him going to North America in the 1970s.
In 1974 New England Whalers (WHA) showed an interest in the talented Swede.
He was put on the NHL negotiation list by Minnesota North Stars in 1974.
In 1977 it was Detroit Red Wings that had an eye on him, but nothing materialized from it.
Scored 641 (391+250) career points in 542 games. Represented Sweden 164 times.
Captained Sweden at the 1977 World Championships. Also a good football player.
Retired in 1981. His jersey was retired and hung up in the rafters by Leksands IF. Worked in a bank.

Joueur technique au flair redoutable dans la zone adverse, devenu avec l'expérience un meneur pratiquant l'autorité par l'exemple.
Intelligent, serein, toujours posé, il ne se mettait pour ainsi dire jamais en colère, ce qui en faisait un joueur très en avance sur son temps, surtout au pic de sa carrière.
En dépit de l'intérêt des New England Whalers (WHA) et des Minnesota North Stars en 1974, puis des Detroit Red Wings en 1977, Åhlberg ne franchit jamais l'Atlantique.
641 points (391+250) en 542 matches. 164 sélections internationales dont une partie en tant que capitaine de la Tre Kronor. Excellait également au football.
A pris sa retraite en 1981. Son maillot pend au plafond de la patinoire du Leksands IF, son club de toujours.
À part cela, il était banquier !
