His father, Bill Baker, a Boston dentist was once invited to try out with baseball's Boston Red Sox. Played college hockey with Union College in Schenectady, New York (majored in economics). Had a great start, winning 46 out his first 51 games.
He had the same great start of his NHL-career with the New York Rangers, losing only one of his first ten starts in 1979-80. Despite this he never quite caught on in the NHL the rest of the way.
Big goaltender covering a lot of the net, but was very agile for his size. Quick reflexes and good anticipation.
Retired in 1984.Went on to work in advertising for Fox Sports Net, specializing in selling the home teams in their home markets. He also did some scouting for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the NHL.

Son père Bill Baker, un dentiste de Boston, l'a d'abord initié au baseball avec les Boston Red Sox. Il a joué son hockey universitaire avec l'Union College de Schenectady, New York (spécialisé en économie). Il a connu des débuts brillants, remportant 46 de ses 51 premiers matchs.
Il eut le même départ explosif dans sa carrière NHL avec les Rangers de New York, ne perdant qu'une seule de ses dix premières rencontre en 1979-80. Malgré cela il n'a jamais percé dans la NHL le reste du temps.
Gardien d'envergure qui couvrait bien sa cage, mais très agile pour sa taille (191 cm). Réflexes rapides et bonne anticipation.
Après sa retraite en 1984, il a travaillé dans la publicité pour Fox Sports Net, spécialisé dans la commericalisation des équipes dans leur marché local. Il fut également recruteur pour le Lightning de Tampa Bay dans la NHL.
