A complete player and very coachable. Born in USA, but raised in Canada (Windsor).
Came from a hockey family, his father was a coach and director of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association, and both his brother and son played in the NHL.
Intelligent player who also had a good short-range shot. Scored 719 points in 666 career games.
Retired after his 10th concussion in 1985. He was appointed assistant-coach by his team, the Calgary Flames.
Made a brief comeback on the ice during the 1986 playoffs to replace an injured player (Carey Wilson).
Coached the USA juniors to the WJC gold medal in 2004. NCAA champion with the Wisconsin Badgers in 2006 and named head coach of the US national team for 2006 World Championships.
