Nephew of former NHL goaltender Roy Edwards. Had quickness both in his gloves and feet.
Thrived under a heavy workload.
He was in goal when Wayne Gretzky broke Phil Esposito’s single season goal record of 76.
Was an NHL All-Star and Vezina Trophy winner. Retired during the 1987/88 season.
Worked as a senior advisor in the British Hockey League, as an assistant coach and goaltending coach in the NHL. He also worked as a general manager and goaltending coach in the OHL.
In 1991 he suffered a personal tragedy when his parents were brutally murdered by his sister’s former boyfriend. The former boyfriend forced himself into the home of Don Edwards parents and shot his mother with a rifle as she ran down the hall for safety.
When the rifle jammed he stabbed the father to death.
Don Edwards’ once promising post-hockey career was derailed as he struggled with PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) and the entire family fought against the system to not have the murderer out on unsupervised paroles.
They also went into hiding after many threats from the killer.

Neveu de l'ancien gardien de NHL Roy Edwards. Rapide à la fois du gant et des pieds.
Il se mettait particulièrement en évidence quand il avait beaucoup de travail.
Il était dans la cage quand Wayne Gretzky a battu le record de buts en une saison de Phil Esposito (76).
Il a été all-star NHL et a remporté le trophée Vezina en 1980. Retraité durant la saison 1987/88.
Il a travaillé comme conseiller dans la British Hockey League, comme assistant-coach et entraîneur de gardiens en NHL. Il a aussi été manager général et entraîneur de gardiens en OHL.
En 1991 il a vécu une tragédie quand ses parents ont été brutalement assassinés par l'ancien petit ami de sa sœur. Celui-ci s'était introduit dans la maison et a tué sa mère avec une carabine alors qu'elle courait se mettre à l'abri.
Quand la carabine s'est enrayée, il a poignardé le père à mort.
La reconversion prometteuse de Don Edwards a déraillé car il a subi des syndromes de stress post-traumatiques.
La famille s'est battue contre le système pour que le meurtrier ne sorte pas de prison sur parole sans surveillance. Ils ont dû se cacher après de nombreuses menaces du tueur.
