From his fathers side the family originated from Lennex, Rhineland Germany in the 17th and 18th century, and from his mothers they originated from Stoke Newington, England.
Good athlete who besides ice hockey also was a good speedskater, competing at the 1936 Winter Olympics in that sport at the tender age of 14.
In that same Olympics his father Paul Graeffe [1897-1957] finished 5th in the four man bobsled (together with hockey player Louis de Ridder).
Jimmy Graeffe was also a very good swimmer and a valuable member of “La Nage Saint-Gilles” in Brussels. Calm under pressure.

Sa famille du côté de son père est originaire de Lennex, en Allemagne au XVIIe et XVIIIe siècle, et du côté de sa mère de Stoke Newington, Angleterre.
Bon athlète qui était un excellent patineur de vitesse, concourant aux JO de 1936 dans ce sport à l’âge tendre de 14 ans.
Dans ces mêmes JO, son père Paul Graeffe a fini cinquième en bobsleigh à 4 (avec le joueur de hockey Louis de Ridder).
Jimmy Graeffe fut également un bon nageur et un membre honoraire de "La Nage St Gilles" à Bruxelles. Calme sous la pression.
