Promising goaltender. Hailed as the successor to „Bawa“ Egginger and “Eipe” Hoffmann, two legendary goaltenders from Riessersee.
Had a solid playing career but wasn’t able to reach the standard of the two afore mentioned goaltenders.
Noted for his quick reflexes that he was already famous for while playing as a football goaltender in Garmisch. German league champion in 1960.
Almost suffered a career-ending injury in 1960/61 when he was hit in the face by a puck.
He heroically finished the game (vs Füssen) and then had surgery to his face.
After that injury he started to use a face mask.
Sustained a knee injury at the 1963 World Championships. Retired in 1968.
Represented Germany/West Germany 44 times. He later worked for the Bayerische Spielbank.
He enjoyed playing golf in later years, although being bothered by bad hips.

Gardien prometteur, présenté comme le successeur de "Bawa" Egginger et "Eipe" Hoffmann, deux gardiens légendaires de Riessersee. Malgré sa solide carrière, il ne s’est jamais hissé aux standards des susnommés.
Remarqué pour ses réflexes rapides, déjà fameux quand il était gardien de football à Garmisch. Vainqueur du championnat allemand en 1960.
A failli arrêter sa carrière le 3 décembre 1960 après s’être reçu un palet en plein visage. Il a fini héroïquement le match (contre Füssen) puis a eu une opération chirurgicale un mois et demi plus tard pour retrouvé son acuité visuelle, qui avait chuté de moitié. Après cet accident, il utilisa un masque.
44 sélections avec l'Allemagne. Blessé au genou aux Mondiaux de 1963.
Pendant sa carrière de joueur, il était croupier au casino de Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Retraité en 1968, il a travaillé ensuite dans la banque à la Bayerische Spielbank.
Pratiquait le golf à la fin de sa vie, malgré des problèmes aux hanches.
