Canadian player of Japanese descent. Born in Coaldale, Alberta but raised in Foremost, Alberta. Played his junior hockey with Lethbridge for four years. Briefly played College hockey in Canada as well as in Germany, before heading to Japan. Gained Japanese citizenship prior to the 1998 Olympics. Playing coach in Japan the last years there.
In his playing career, Kabayama scored 686 (259+427) career points in 755 games. Retired in 2005 and went back to Canada, to coach in junior hockey

Canadien d'origine japonaise et naturalisé, il est né à Coaldale mais a grandi à Foremost, une autre ville de l'Alberta.
Pratique son hockey junior à Lethbridge puis Medicine Hat avant d'entrer dans le circuit universitaire canadien, faire un tour en Allemagne (Schwenningen) et enfin rejoindre le Japon.
Devenu sélectionnable juste avant les JO de Nagano, il reste ensuite dans l'île, finissant sa carrière sur glace en tant qu'entraîneur-joueur.
Se retire en 2005 après 686 points (259+427) en 755 matches. Retourne au Canada et s'occupe de hockey junior (à Lethbridge notamment).
