His family originated from Saarbrücken in Germany. Born in Santa Domenica (today Rossa). Formed the dangerous 'Er-Sturm" together with Heini Lohrer and his younger brother Herbert Kessler. Played the majority of his career in Zürich for Zürcher SC. Represented Switzerland 78 times.
Celebrated his 75th international game with the Swiss national team on March 2, 1941 vs Finland. Retired in 1944. Became an international referee in the 1940s. Worked in a bank. Passed away in Ittingen, in the canton of Bern.

Descend de citoyens de Sarrebruck, en Allemagne. Né à Santa Domenica (aujourd'hui incorporé à la commune de Rossa). Lui même à fait la majorité de sa carrière à Zurich, au ZSC, où il formait la "Er-Sturm" avec Heini Lohrer et son petit frère Herbert Kessler. 78 sélections pour la Nati, la 75e ayant eu lieu le 2 mars 1941 contre la Finlande.
Après sa retraite de joueur en 1944 (il était banquier dans le civil), il a été arbitre national et international. Décédé à Ittingen, dans le canton de Berne où il s'était installé.
