A defenceman known for his offensive rushes and his hard bodychecks.
Arie Klein was the face of ice hockey in the Netherlands in post-war years. He started playing ice hockey at 15 and already played for HHYC first team at 16.
His father had played football. Arie took over the fur and leather goods store owned by his parents and developed the adjacent workshop with until twelve employees sewing tailor-made clothes and bags.
He also was a good sailor (Soling class) but couldn't qualify for the Olympic games.
The on- and off-ice national team leader retired from ice hockey in the early 1970s after more than 25 years. He had played more than 1000 games for The Hague. He got inducted in Dutch Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 2023 at 91.

Défenseur réputé pour ses montées avec le palet et ses mises en échec puissantes, Arie Klein était le visage du hockey sur glace néerlandais d'après-guerre. Il commença ce sport à 15 ans et jouait déjà en équipe première du HHYC à 16 ans. Il joua son premier tournoi international (les seuls Mondiaux élite de sa vie) à 18 ans.
Son père jouait au football. Arie reprit le magasin de fourrures et de maroquinerie de ses parents et développa l'atelier adjacent en employant jusqu'à 12 personnes pour coudre des vêtements, chapeaux et sacs sur mesure.
Il a aussi essayé de participer aux Jeux olympiques en voile (classe Soling), sans se qualifier.
Cette personnalité très influente sur et en dehors de la glace a mené une très longue carrière de plus de 25 ans et dépassé les 1000 rencontres jouées pour La Haye (amicales ou en compétition). Intronisé au Hall of Fame du hockey néerlandais à 91 ans.
