Mobile defender, rarely making mistakes. Offensively limited but steady defensively. A stay-at-home style type of player with sound positioning. One the plus side he also had excellent speed, a booming shot from the point and a physical edge. Had only a brief NHL career that effectively ended when Anaheim wanted to send him to their farm team and he refused.
In 2008 he also attended the NY Rangers training camp but didn’t make the cut. Sometimes his name is spelled Maxim Kondratyev.

Sorti de l'école de Togliatti époque Piotr Vorobiev, c'est un défenseur mobile, limité offensivement et particulièrement rigoureux dans son jeu et son placement. Très rapide, lancer mi-distance puissant et sacré impact sur la glace (94kg pour 1,86m).
Les choses ne se sont pas très bien passées entre la NHL et lui car, aussi bien aux Leafs qu'aux Rangers, il a beauoup goûté aux allers-retours avec l'AHL. Aussi quand, en 2008, Anaheim voulut lui imposer un nouveau passage par leur équipe-ferme, il fit sa valise. Participa encore par la suite à un camp d'entraînement des Rangers mais ne fut pas pris.
Son nom est parfois graphié "Maxim Kondratyev".
Trois points (1+2) inscrits en 40 parties de saison régulière de NHL.
