Good sized player and strong with the puck. Hard-working player.
Made his national team debut on April 24, 2010 against Denmark after a 15-goal rookie season in SM-liiga. His brother Tero was his teammate in SaiPa then.
Switched to the KHL in 2013. After a career-best 45 points with Sibir Novosibirsk in 2014/15, he played five more years with SKA St. Petersburg. There he developed his physical game to become mostly a two-way center. Russian champion 2017.
Came back to Finland in 2020 to captain SaiPa and retired three years later.
KHL totals: 449-94-88-182. Finnish Liiga totals: 374-82-108-190.

Il débute en équipe nationale le 24 avril 2010 contre le Danemark, après une première saison de SM-liiga à 15 buts avec le SaiPa, avec son frère Tero comme coéquipier.
Il part en 2013 en KHL. Après un sommet de carrière à 45 points avec le Sibir Novosibirsk en 2014/15, il joue cinq saisons au SKA Saint-Pétersbourg. Dans cet effectif pléthorique, il développe son jeu physique pour se spécialiser comme centre à vocation plus défensive. Champion de Russie 2017.
Il rentre en Finlande en 2020 pour devenir capitaine de SaiPa et arrête trois ans plus tard.

190 points (82+108) en 374 parties de Liiga finlandaise.
