Not afraid to play physical hockey. Raised in a French speaking family.
Showed a lot of interest for skating and athletics at an early age.
Began playing for Mercurius and then won several Belgian ice hockey Championships with "Le Puck".
Became a Belgian speed skating champion at 1.500m.
In athletics he was the fastest runner in Belgium at 200m hurdles in 1934.
In 1934 he co-founded UPA Brussels but soon relocated to Antwerp at the opening of the "Sportpaleis".
Was known to be a crowd-pleaser. Every week supporters held their breath during intermissions of the hockey games as he jumped over a table with a rack of chairs, or 6 or 7 oil barrels at once.
In 1946 he started an entire new club, the "Metro IHC" that merged with "Brabo" only one year later.
Played his 150th game for Belgium in 1953.
Became a referee and in charge of the selections for the Belgian National Team.
Also ran a sports store at the "Hof Ter Bekestraat" in Antwerp.
He died broke, and shortly before his death several hockey people donated some money as he was on the brink of starvation.
The Dutch Ice hockey Federation donated some money to help cover the cost of his burial service in 1973.

Il n'avait pas peur de pratiquer un hockey physique malgré un gabarit léger.
Élevé dans une famille francophone, il montra très tôt beaucoup d'attrait pour le patinage et l'athlétisme.
Il commença à jouer pour le Mercurius, puis remporta plusieurs titres de champion de Belgique avec "Le Puck" d'Anvers.
Champion de Belgique de patinage de vitesse sur 1500 mètres.
En athlétisme il fut en 1934 le Belge le plus rapide au 200 mètres haies.
En 1934 il fut co-fondateur de l'UPA Bruxelles qui fut rapidement relocalisé à Anvers, à l'ouverture du "Sportpaleis".
Connu pour son être apprécié des foules. Chaque semaine, le public retenait son souffle à l'occasion des pauses entre tiers. Lekens sautait par-dessus une table avec une rangée de chaises, ou par-dessus 6 ou 7 barils de pétrole.
En 1946 il créa une nouvelle équipe, le "Metro IHC" qui fusionna avec le "Brabo" un an plus tard.
Il joua son 150e match en sélection belge en 1953.
Devenu arbitre et responsable des sélections belges.
Il tint également une boutique de sports, située dans la Hof Ter Bekestraat à Anvers.
Mort ruiné. Peu de temps avant sa mort plusieurs joueurs lui firent un don alors qu'il était au bord de la famine.
La fédération néerlandaise donna également de l'argent pour aider au financement de ses funérailles en 1973.
