Born in Paris but grew up and learned to play hockey in Los Angeles. First laced up his skates at the age of five at the Ice Capades Chalet in Topanga Plaza, CA.
Excellent skater and handled the puck well. Very nifty stickhandler. Not very physical, but more of a finesse player.
Had dual citizenship which enabled him to represent France at the Olympics and World Championships.
Won three French league titles with Rouen (1994, 1995) and Brest (1996, though he suffered a back injury most of the time).
Drafted in the NHL by Boston Bruins 1987. Retired in 1999. Went on to work at a sporting goods company.
He missed playing hockey and was constantly looking for other “rushes” and “kicks”.
Started doing drugs and got hooked on crystal meth.
Became an avid snowboarder which almost cost him his life when he got stuck during bad weather in the ski slopes of Sierra Nevada (Mamooth Mountain) in 2004.
In heavy fog Éric took a wrong turn and headed into the wilderness.
During the second day he found a river and drank from it.
He also had a bag of meth with him but dumped the meth out on the snow in that critical moment.
As he was taking his last sips from the river, he fell into the freezing water.
On the third day the sub-zero temperatures had taken a heavy toll. He did not feel his feet anymore.
He had gone nine miles off course and spent the next three days, inching his way up the mountain.
When the search and rescue team found him after eight days on the mountain, his body temperature was 86 degrees.
He was severely dehydrated and had lost 40 pounds, and both feet were eventually amputated.
After that ordeal he found God and quit his drug habit.
He later wrote an international best-selling book named Crystal Clear, and in 2017 the movie 6 Below: Miracle on the Mountain was released.

Né à Paris, il a grandi et a appris le hockey à Los Angeles. Il a chaussé ses premiers patins à 5 ans à l'Ice Capades Chalet de Topanga Plaza, en Californie.
Excellent patineur qui portait le palet à merveille. Ses mains étaient excellentes. Pas très physique, mais un joueur plein de finesse.
Bi-national, ce qui lui a permis de porter les couleurs de la France pour des Jeux olympiques et des Mondiaux.
Champion de France avec le Rouen HC en 1994 et 1995, puis avec Brest en 1996 (même s'il fut blessé au dos à partir de novembre).
Drafté NHL par les Bruins de Boston en 1987. Retraité en 1999, il travailla alors dans une société d'articles de sport.
Le hockey lui manquait et il fut toujours en quête d'adrénaline et de sensations.
Il commença à prendre de la drogue et à devenir accro à la méthamphétamine.
Il devint ensuite à un snowboardeur passionné, ce qui faillit lui coûter la vie quand il fut coincé sur les pistes de ski de la Sierra Nevada (la montagne Mamooth) en 2004.
Dans un brouillard épais, Éric prit un mauvais virage et se dirigea vers une zone sauvage.
Au deuxième jour il trouva une rivière ce qui lui permit de boire.
Il possédait à la base un sac de méthamphétamine, mais il le jeta dans la neige à un moment critique.
Alors qu'il prenait ses dernières gorgées dans la rivière, il tomba dans l'eau glacée.
Au troisième jour, les températures négatives eurent de lourdes conséquences. Il ne sentait plus ses pieds.
Il s'éloigna de neuf kilomètres et passa les trois jours suivants à gravir la montagne.
Quand les services de secours l'ont retrouvé après huit jours passé seul dans la montagne, sa température corporelle était de 30°C.
Il était sévèrement deshydraté et avait perdu 18 kilos, et ses deux pieds furent finalement amputés.
Après ce supplice, il devint croyant et arrêta la drogue.
Il a écrit un livre devenu un best-seller international, "Crystal Clear", adapté en 2017 dans le film 6 Below: Miracle on the Mountain.
