Eduard Lewandowski

Lewandowski, Eduard Voldemarovich

Position : RW

07-09-1980 Krasnoturyinsk, URS (RUS)

Youth team / club formateur : Mayak Krasnoturyinsk (bandy) / REV Wilhelmshaven (hockey)

Born and raised in the Russian industrial town of Krasnoturinsk where he played bandy. Came to Germany as a 15-year old with his family.
In his first training in Germany, he was the best skater in the team but had trouble with the hockey stick.
Decent skater and playmaker. Only average shot at best. Developed slowly into a decent third line player.
Another Russian-speaking and Soviet-born player, Boris Blank, was his roommate and linemate when he debuted at the World Championships. They debuted together at 17 when they formed the best offensive duo in second division with Wilhelmshaven.
Drafted in the NHL by Phoenix Coyotes 2003 but never showed any great interest in coming to North America and fight for an eventual NHL spot. He came to training camp but he declined two-way contracts and demanded a one-way contract he never got.
Went to play in the KHL instead, during seven seasons. Returned back to Germany when his wife Erika was pregnant of their third child. Bought a family house in Düsseldorf.
Retired at 43 to become a full-time youth hockey coach in Düsseldorf (he trained their U15 team during his last playing year in Krefeld).
121 national team games.
