Related to Charles "Chuck" McCarthy. His father was born in Massachusetts and his mother in Cork, Ireland.
Tall player with a good reach and strong on the puck. One of the fastest skaters in Boston during the mid 1920s.
First played hockey with Arlington High School. Gifted athlete for Massachusetts Agricultural College (MAC) (later named University of Massachusetts).
Shortstop for the varsity baseball team in 1919 and captain for the ice hockey team, also played football.
Became an accountant, working for Monsanto Chemical and Acton Cross Co.
