Hulking stay-at-home defenseman with a tremendous reach.
Pretty good skater for a player of his size, 203 cm (6-8) and 110 kg (245 lbs).
He was highly regarded as a junior and was a first round NHL pick in 2005 as scouts really liked his size and raw talent.
He was a work in progress throughout his junior career.
Expected mobility issues, limited stickhandling and pass receiving skills.
Great potential to punish opposing forwards and provide an impediment to the attack in his own end.
Susceptible to turnovers due to a long windup and slow release.
Sometimes caught in bad positioning. Improved vastly from his junior days.
Not afraid to use all of his weight and height to his advantage.
Tough and physical, playing a mean and overall disciplined game in his end of the ice.
Limited hockey sense and purely a defensively oriented blueliner.
Good heavy and accurate slapshot from the point but using it rarely.
After returning back from North America he played in the KHL, Sweden and Slovakia.

Immense défenseur défensif, avec une portée extraordinaire.
Plutôt bon patineur pour un joueur de cette taille, 2m03 et 110 kg.
Choisi au premier tour de la draft NHL 2005 car les recruteurs appréciaient vraiment sa taille et son talent brut.
Talent encore en junior, car il devait notamment améliorer sa mobilité, son maniement de la crosse et sa réception de passes.
Grand potentiel pour punir les attaquants adverses et un réel obstacle pour l'offensive adverse.
Il était sujet à des pertes de palet en raison de ses mouvements amples et d'une certaine lenteur de déclenchement.
Parfois hors de position, il s'est amélioré considérablement depuis ses débuts.
Il n'hésite pas à utiliser son gabarit à son avantage. Physique et rude, mais capable d'afficher un jeu plutôt discipliné.
Son sens du hockey limité le limite à un jeu purement défensif. Son lancer de la bleue est lourd et précis, mais il l'utilise peu.
Après son retour d'Amérique du Nord, il a joué en KHL, en Suède et en Slovaquie.
